Marathon
Description:
We've got one
more
good Marathon left in us before we all head off to college. Having run
out of ideas, we asked you guys what you'd like to see and put a poll
up. The majority preferred that we revisit last year's Sonic the
Hedgehog Marathon so that's exactly what we'll be doing!
While there have been dozens upon dozens of Sonic games made over the
years, we're restricting our focus to just those in the main series.
These include...
- Sonic the
Hedgehog
- Sonic the
Hedgehog 2
- Sonic the
Hedgehog 3
- Sonic and
Knuckles
- Sonic CD
- Sonic
Adventure
- Sonic
Adventure 2
- Sonic
Heroes
- Shadow the
Hedgehog
- Sonic '06
- Sonic
Unleashed
All
the
money raised will go to charity: water, an international charity
that that
provides clean water to people in developing nations.
Just $20 can provide a person with clean drinking water for 20 years
while $5,000 can fund the construction of a well that can provide 250
people with clean drinking water.

Why Sonic?
Again?
They've been making Sonic games for nearly 20 years at this point--
there's certainly a LOT to choose from. A lot of us grew up with Sonic
the Hedgehog and it's certainly interesting to see how the Blue Blur
has changed over the years.
Plus, we know a lot of you just want to see us suffer through Sonic
'06. Again. Don't worry, we've got you covered.
What's
the criteria for completion?
For all the
games on the Sega Genesis (Sonic
1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles) and Sonic CD, once we beat Dr.
Robotnik on the final stage, we're done.
Sonic Adventure is considered
finished when Perfect Chaos is destroyed
at the end, and Sonic Adventure 2 is done when The Finalhazard is taken
down.
Sonic Heroes is done when we
defeat the Metal Overlord and Shadow the Hedgehog is over when we
defeat Devil Doom.
Sonic
the Hedgehog (Sonic '06)
is completed when each character's storyline is finished and Solaris is
defeated. Sonic Unleashed is finished when Dark Gaia is beaten.
Couple of notes here-- we'll do our best to complete as many games as
possible. Still, there are a LOT of games to beat and if one game
begins to drag on, we've got nothing against putting up polls and
having you guys decide we should move on.
(Also, why do the final boss names seem to get so much more...
bizarre... as the games go on? What was wrong with just Dr. Robotnik?)
What
system will
you play the games on?
Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic 3D Blast
will be played on the Sega Genesis (lots of blowing involved) and the
Sonic Mega Collection disc on the GameCube (no blowing involved)
Sonic
CD will be played on a
GameCube using the Sonic Gems Collection game.
Sonic
Adventure and
Sonic Adventure 2 will be played on the Sega Dreamcast and the GameCube.
Sonic Heroes and Shadow the
Hedgehog will both be played on the GameCube.
Sonic
'06 and
Sonic Unleashed will be played on a PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
Is there going to be
a raffle?
Yes! I am in the
process of getting some ExtraLives.org T-shirts printed up to raffle
off. We will be raffling five
of these shirts during the Marathon and one shirt will be reserved for
the highest donor, making a total of six
shirts we're giving away.
As was the case with the previous Marathons,
every $5 donation counts for one
entry in the raffle. Each $5 entry will enter the donor in every
raffle we have throughout the
course of this Marathon.
Like the Pokethon, we will not
be raffling off all of the items at once. Instead, we will raffle off a
T-shirt approximately every 12 hours.
Donate early and often for the best chances at winning!
You had a bunch of
fanart last time-- will you accept more?
Sure! We love to get fanart and we hope you guys enjoy looking through
it as much as we do.
In fact, we love receiving art so much that we're giving away three
Sonic the Hedgehog hats to people who make us something. This doesn't
have to be limited to just drawn art so be creative! Just make sure
whatever you make relates to ExtraLives.org (or at least Sonic) in some
way and that it is YOUR OWN original work-- plagiarism is bad.
Here's a
picture of the Sonic hat, by the way:
I
want to watch, but I'll be away. What
do I do?!
Provided there
are no unforeseen
technical issues, we'll be recording the entire Marathon
so you can re-watch
it whenever you'd like!
